Technology dey change very fast, and one skill I strongly believe say the next generation must learn is Artificial Intelligence (AI) literacy. You no need be programmer before you fit understand and use AI. The important thing na knowing how to use AI correctly, responsibly, and productively.
As person wey don work with digital tools and online platforms, I have seen how AI can save time, improve work, and help people learn new things. But I also notice say many people dey use AI without really understanding how e works. That one fit create problem.
What is AI literacy?
AI literacy simply mean knowing how to communicate with AI tools, understand their answers, check whether the information correct, and use the tools responsibly.
For example, instead of just telling an AI, “Write something for me,” you can give clear instructions about what you want, who the audience is, the tone, and the length. The better your instruction, the better the result you are likely to get.
Learn how to give good instructions
One of the first skills to learn na prompt writing. A good prompt should tell the AI exactly what you need.
For example, instead of saying:
“Write about business.”
You can say:
“Write a 500-word beginner-friendly article about how small businesses can use social media to attract customers. Use simple English and include five practical tips.”
You can see the difference. The second instruction gives the AI clear direction.
Always verify AI information
This one is very important. AI fit give you wrong information sometimes, even when the answer sounds confident.
Before you use important information for school, business, work, or public content, always cross-check the facts from reliable sources. No just copy and paste everything AI gives you.
AI should be your assistant, not your brain.
Use AI to learn, not to become lazy
Another mistake people dey make na using AI to do everything for them. If you use AI only to get quick answers, you may not develop your own skills.
Instead, use AI as a teacher. Ask it to explain difficult topics, give you examples, test your knowledge, correct your mistakes, or help you practise.
For example, if you want to learn digital marketing, you can ask AI to create a learning plan, explain marketing concepts, give you practical exercises, and review your work.
Why this skill matters for the next generation
AI is already entering different industries, including education, finance, healthcare, marketing, customer service, and technology. The people who know how to work effectively with AI will have an advantage.
But I believe the biggest advantage will not belong to people who simply know how to use AI. It will belong to people who can think critically, solve problems, communicate well, and use AI to improve their abilities.
So, if you are young and thinking about the future, start learning AI literacy now. You don't need expensive equipment or advanced technical knowledge. Start small, practise every day, ask questions, and always verify what you learn.
