# How to Make an Interesting Social Media Poster, on Your Phone

1. Start With One Clear Idea
Before opening the design app, decide what the poster is supposed to communicate.
For example, you could create a poster advertising:
A small business
A sale
A music event
A birthday
A service
A social media announcement
A motivational quote
I always find it easier to design when I know the main message first.
For example, instead of trying to advertise everything at once, make the main message something simple like:
"50% OFF THIS WEEKEND"
Then build the rest of the design around that message.

• Choose a Background 

Here are some quick tips to start your journey: 

• Background is always the first thing you notice about someone. 

You can use: 

A solid color 

A gradient 

A photograph 

A texture 

A simple graphic pattern 

If you're looking for a more beginner-friendly design, keep things simple by choosing a simple background. If you choose an overly busy background, then all of your text and key points will be hard to read! 

A good rule I follow is: 

Your background needs to be supportive of your message.

• Create a Strong Headline 

First of all, your main headline will show what this poster is about to the viewers immediately. 

For example: 

NEW COLLECTION 

or 

WEEKEND SALE 

or 

LEARN GRAPHIC DESIGN 

You want to make sure your headline is bigger than your supporting text.

4.• Choose Your Fonts Carefully 

Fonts will also alter your design's personality. 

For example, when designing a clean looking poster I typically suggest you use 1 or 2 fonts, but don't fill the entire design with multiple typeface families. 

You can use: 

Bold font → Main headline 

Simple font → Supporting information 

You can also double-check the text on your phone before finalizing it. 

If you need to zoom-in to see the content clearly, there’s definitely room for improvement in the design! 

• Use a Small Color Palette 

Use a Main Color + Supporting Colors. Avoiding Too Many Colors can help your design appear much more professional. You don’t have to be an Expert Designer but you can still choose your Design properly. One thing I want to tell you that Choose Only 1 Color as your Main Color & then choose from One or Two more Colors for Supporting.

• Add Images and Graphic Elements 

Once you’ve developed your concept, start to consider the visual aspects which will help reinforce this message 

Depending on the design, these could include: 

Product photos 

People 

Shapes 

Icons 

Lines 

Logos 

Decorative elements 

Don’t add graphics just to fill up empty space. Every element on your design has a purpose. For instance, if you are advertising shoes, then the images of shoes should stand out as much as possible. 

• Arrange Everything With Enough Space 

This is actually the most important part of the graphic designing. 

Do not put all elements against each other. 

Leave some empty space around: 

Headlines 

Images 

Logos 

Buttons 

Important information 

This empty space is for helping me to get an understanding of my design. Also I make sure all elements are properly aligned instead of putting everything randomly.

6. • Add a Call to Action 

Tell your viewer what they should do next if making a promotional poster. 

For example:

BOOK TODAY

The CTA should be short and noticeable.

My 5 Simple Rules for Better Graphic Design 

Keep It Simple - Don't Add Elements Just To Fill Empty Space. 

Make One Thing The Focus. 

You have just said what you want on the page — now tell your viewers exactly where they need to look. Immediately. 

Don’t overdo it with the number of different fonts you’re using. One or two at maximum! 

Use contrast. Text should be easily readable on the background. Always review your work. 

Just a few seconds will enable you to spot issues with spelling, alignment and spacing. 

Conclusion 

Creating an appealing social media poster need not necessarily be complicated. 

The key here lies in organizing your info well, rather than trying out loads of effects & graphics.
